Welcome to SA Postcard Prints
4 years ago, living in the U.K., I came across a few old South African postcards while rummaging through a car boot sale in Dorking… this was to be the first of many finds through various avenues - postcard fairs, charity shops and eBay, this paved the way for the wonderful collection that I now have. The historical significance of how glorious and beautiful South Africa was at the turn of the century never ceases to amaze me - the buildings, lifestyles and quaintness of it all seems to raise a nostalgia in people that I can identify with and that passion keeps me on the lookout for new cards wherever possible.
Most of the postally used cards were posted from South Africa to family and friends in the U.K. and the remarkable significance about them is that they all have a story to tell – especially during WWII when injuries forced the men to relax and writing was almost a form of comfort to them. The earliest go back to late 1800’s and are in remarkably good condition, showing South Africa in all its past glory, and this enables the printers to get an incredible reproduction on colour and detail, so when they’re framed and hanging on the wall they are absolutely stunning! Not only do old postcards strike a note of a by-gone era but the market days in Kimberly & Bloemfontein, showing ox-drawn carts in a frenzy of organized chaos; wash days in the rivers of Jo’burg. Boer children in the back of an ox wagon and the magnificent architecture of city buildings throughout the country, all pull us towards our heritage and our history, a piece of who we are.
We have a duty to preserve and protect our past for our future generations. Please call me for an opportunity to view what I have, if nothing else it will make you smile.
